9.) 🔹Help and Introduction
# FreeCell Overview
Game Objective:
The goal of the game is to move all 52 cards to the four foundation piles. The free cells may be used as temporary holding spaces.
You win when you have built four stacks on the foundation piles: one stack for each suit in ascending order from Ace to King.
Note:
It is assumed that every game is winnable, although the formal proof for this is still pending.
# Game Layout and Card Distribution
At the start of the game, all cards are dealt into eight columns:
- Columns 1-4: contain 7 cards
- Columns 5-8: contain 6 cards
The playing area consists of:
- 4 Foundation Piles (top right) - for the four suits
- 4 Free Cells (top left) - as temporary holding spaces
- 8 Columns - the main playing field
# How to Play FreeCell
1. Click on the Game menu and select New Game.
2. Click on the card you wish to move, then click on the desired destination.
Moving Rules:
Between Columns:
- Cards must be in descending order (from King to Ace)
- Colors must alternate (Red/Black)
- No limit on the number of cards per column
To Foundation Piles:
- Cards must be of the same suit
- Must be built in ascending order (from Ace to King)
- Maximum of 13 cards per foundation pile
Allowed Moves:
- From the bottom of a column to:
- A Free Cell
- The bottom of another column
- A Foundation Pile
- From a Free Cell to:
- The bottom of a column
- A Foundation Pile
# How to Change Game Options
1. Click on the Game menu and select Options.
2. Choose one of the following options:
- Show messages for invalid moves
- Fast game (no animation)
- Double-click moves card to free cell
# Strategies and Tips
Game Preparation:
- First, analyze the card layout
- Identify hidden Aces and low cards behind high cards
Resource Management:
- Try to keep free cells available as much as possible
- Empty columns are also valuable
- Use empty columns for Kings or long sequences
Advanced Techniques:
- To view a partially hidden card: Right-click
- To quickly move a card to a free cell: Double-click
- To move multiple cards at once: Click on the bottom card of the sequence
- Maximum movable cards: `(Number of free cells + 1) × (Number of empty columns + 1)`
Automatic Functions:
- FreeCell automatically moves unneeded cards to the foundations
- A card is considered unneeded when there are no lower cards of the opposite color left in play
- When only one valid move remains: Title bar blinks as a warning
Important Strategies:
- Plan long moves in advance
- Avoid blocking low cards
- Use empty columns as temporary storage for entire sequences
- Keep an eye on color distribution for optimal move sequences
