2.) Why should you hide desktop icons when pressing the middle mouse button?

Desktop icons hiding when pressing the middle mouse button can occur for various reasons, which may vary depending on the user's individual preferences and work habits. Here are some possible reasons:

Better visibility: Hiding desktop icons can improve the visibility of the background screen, especially if the desktop is cluttered with icons. This can be helpful to see the background more clearly or to better enjoy a wallpaper, for example.

Focus on the content: Hiding the icons allows users to focus on the open windows and applications on the desktop without being distracted by icons. This can be particularly useful when working on multiple projects at the same time or when making presentations.

Aesthetic reasons: A tidy desktop without icons can be more aesthetically pleasing and provide a feeling of organization and cleanliness. Some users prefer a minimalist desktop to create a calming work environment.

Quick Access: Hiding icons can also make it easier to access files and shortcuts on the desktop by temporarily hiding the icons while you work on another task on the desktop.

Personal Preference: Ultimately, hiding desktop icons may simply be a personal preference. Some users prefer to customize and customize their work environment to reflect their own work style and preferences.

It is important to note that hiding desktop icons does not make sense for every user, and the decision whether to do so or not depends on the user's individual needs, work habits, and aesthetic preferences.

3.) Here's a way to do this on Windows using a little script!

To hide desktop icons when pressing the middle mouse button, you usually need special software or script, as this is not available by default in the settings of operating systems such as Windows or macOS. Here's one way to achieve this on Windows using a small script in AutoHotkey:

1. Install AutoHotkey if you don't already have it. You can download and install it from the official website: https://www.autohotkey.com/

2. After installation, create a new text file and enter the following code:

#NoEnv
SendMode Input
SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir%
#IfWinActive ahk_class Progman
MButton::ToggleDesktopIcons()
ToggleDesktopIcons() {
ControlGet, hWnd, HWND,, SysListView321, ahk_class Progman
SendMessage, 0x101, 0, 0, , ahk_id %hWnd% ; LVM_FIRST := 0x1000 ; LVM_SETVIEW := (LVM_FIRST + 142)
}

3. Save the file with the extension ".ahk", e.g. E.g. “HideDesktopIcons.ahk”.

4. Run the AHK file by double-clicking it. The script runs in the background.

5. Now when you press the middle mouse button on the desktop, the icons should disappear. If you press the middle mouse button again, the icons will appear again.

Please note that AutoHotkey scripts only work on Windows systems. If you use macOS or another operating system, you may need a different solution.

4.) Do I have other options for other OS like Linux and Mac OS?

Yes, there are other ways to hide desktop icons depending on your operating system and your
Requirements. Here are some alternative approaches:

On macOS:

Terminal Commands:  You can use commands from the Terminal to control the display of desktop icons. For example, you can use the command `defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop false; killall Finder` hide the desktop icons. To turn them back on, use `defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop true; killall Finder`.

Third-party apps:  There are also third-party apps that offer advanced desktop management features, including hiding icons. Examples are DesktopUtility and Unclutter.

On Linux:

Desktop Environments:  Some Linux desktop environments such as GNOME, KDE Plasma, etc. may provide built-in options to hide desktop icons. Check your desktop environment settings.

Scripts and tools:  You can use scripts or tools to control the display of desktop icons. For example, you can write scripts using commands like `gsettings` in GNOME or `kwriteconfig` in KDE to change the settings.

On Windows:

Desktop management software: There are various third-party desktop management tools that offer advanced features, including the ability to hide or organize desktop icons. Some examples are Stardock Fences, DesktopOK and DisplayFusion.

Group Policies: In corporate environments, administrators can use policies to control the display of desktop icons. However, this requires administrative permissions and is more suitable for network settings.

Depending on your operating system and your specific needs, you can choose one of these methods to hide desktop icons.
