1.) Changing the maximum size of the virtual hard disk!

1. Please start the diskpart under MS Windows OS

2. Use the command  select vdisk

3. To change the size of the VHD enter  expand vdisk maximum=132000

Here in the example with 132000, that is ~ 128 GB, the maximum is specified in megabytes, you can specify any other size for the virtual hard disk that is required! This command works under Windows 11, 10, ... etc. and current MS Server OS!

DISKPART> select vdisk file="y: \_ 1\VHD64GB.vhd"

The file for virtual disks was successfully selected by DiskPart.

DISKPART> expand vdisk maximum=132000

100 percent processed

The file for virtual disks was successfully expanded by DiskPart.

DISKPART>

2.) What should you watch out for in order to change the maximum hard drive capacity of the VHD?

The maximum size of the VHD for virtual data carriers is of the fixed size and dynamic type, the dynamic is growing. Both types of VHD variants can be changed in terms of the size of the virtual data carrier.

With static or fixed VHDs, one has the impression that this cannot be done, that after the size has been determined, it can no longer be changed. But this is not the case, it can be enlarged later, for example if the volumes it contains become full!
