Why does Windows keep getting bigger on the hard drive?

The question is simple: why is Windows getting bigger and bigger on the hard drive?

It's also a good idea to regularly check your hard drive or SSD for disk space usage to make sure there's enough space available and your system is running smoothly. Windows grows larger on the disk over time for a number of reasons:

Updates:
Microsoft regularly releases updates and patches for the Windows operating system to close security holes, fix bugs, and add new features. These updates are stored on your hard drive and can increase the size of the operating system over time.

►►  Change Windows 10/11 update settings, quick solution

Applications and software:
When you install new software and applications on your Windows computer, they usually take up space on your hard drive. This also applies to games, office applications, multimedia software, and other programs.

►►  What are Windows applications?

Temporary files:
Windows creates and manages temporary files to help the system and applications run. These files can accumulate over time and take up disk space.

►►  Why do you need a temporary file?

System restore points:
Windows automatically creates system restore points so you can restore your system in case of a problem. These points can also take up space on your hard drive.

►►  Remove system restore points!

Recycle Bin and temporary files:
The Recycle Bin on your computer contains deleted files that are not initially permanently removed from the hard drive. Temporary files are also often created in the background and take up storage space.

►►  Delete temporary files and other things automatically under Windows 10!

Installs updates and drivers:
When you install updates for hardware drivers or other system components, they are also saved to your hard drive.

►►   Disable driver updates in Windows 10 and 11?

To manage and control the size of Windows on your hard drive, you can do the following:

Regular cleanup:
Use built-in tools like Disk Cleanup to delete temporary and unnecessary files.

►►  Delete unnecessary files in Windows 10 using Disk Cleanup

Uninstall unnecessary programs:
Remove software you no longer use to free up storage space.

►►  Uninstall programs in Windows 10 / 11 settings?

Manage system restore points:
You can limit the number of system restore points you create to save storage space.

Monitor your hard drive:
Use disk analysis tools to find out which files and folders are taking up the most space and delete or move them if necessary.

Use external storage devices:
If your hard drive is running low, you can move files to external hard drives or cloud storage to free up space.

►►  Step by step, divide, format and shrink a new hard drive...

Info:

The size of Windows on your hard drive may grow over time, but with good management and regular maintenance, you can ensure that your system runs efficiently and no unnecessary space is wasted.
