Change password of a Windows user account using Command Prompt?

As long as you have the necessary rights, you can change any password for any user on Windows 11, 10, etc. at any time!

1.) ... Change the password of a Windows user account using the command prompt!
2.) ... What you should know when changing passwords via Command Prompt!

1.) Change the password of a Windows user account using the command prompt!

For the following action, start  the Command Prompt  or  PowerShell in administrative mode to get the necessary rights and be able to change the password of a Windows user account!

1. It is best to list all users to avoid the error when entering the user names. This can be done with the net user command

2. Now you can also quickly change the user name by confirming entering net user user * (star). Enter this command with Enter

3. You will then be asked to enter the new password , which must also be confirmed with Enter. However, the text cursor always remains in the same position, so you shouldn't let this confuse you.

4. All that was left to do was confirm the password to ensure that no typing errors were made.

5. After that, all you need to do is confirm and you can log in with the new user password, here in the example User-1

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.2200] (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:\Windows\system32>net user User accounts for \\W11_RP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Administrator Gast Nenad The command completed successfully. C:\Windows\system32>net user Administrator * Type a password for the user: Retype the password to confirm: The command completed successfully. C:\Windows\system32>

2.) What you should know when changing passwords via Command Prompt!

For example, if you use the Microsoft account under Windows 11 or Windows 10, you need to change this via Windows Settings. Changing a Microsoft account password doesn't work using the Command Prompt. For local user accounts, the password can be changed at any time; you do not need to know the current password if you have the necessary rights to the Windows operating system.
