A device (e.g. remote control) with which a user can control a second device at another location.
For example, the TV remote control allows a person to change the channel or volume, or to turn the TV on and off without having to get up and pressing the buttons on the front of the TV.
Before today's TV remote controls, there was a wired remote control connected to the television via cable, before that you had to get up to change the channel, or the volume, or to switch off the device!
