Configure CPU count for Windows on restart!

MS Windows 11, 10, ... etc. has a function with which you can regulate in the operating system that only a part of the computer's available processor cores is used.

If you are a software developer or software tester, you can see how the program behaves on a computer that has to make do with less power. Very handy because without a second computer you can use this function to fix a possible CPU problem. Use the Windows System Configuration utility to open these settings!

Content / solution / tip:

1.) ... reduce the number of processor cores on the Windows computer!
2.) ... What should be considered when reducing the number of processor cores?

See also: ►►  How to restart Windows utilities?

1.) Reduce the number of processor cores on the Windows computer!

1. Please start the msconfig command via the Windows command prompt [ Windows +R ],

2. Then go to the Boot / Start tab. Select the operating system (in this case Windows 10)

3. In advanced options, simply activate and set the number of processors in the Advanced Options window!

(... see Image-1 Point 1 to 6)

PS: The information is valid for the next start of Windows! Now just click OK and restart the system! After restarting Windows only the default processors will be used, in this case it would only be 1  processor!

2.) What should be considered when reducing the number of processor cores?

Actually, you can't do anything wrong here, you should only remove the restriction on the number of processors after completing the tests as described under point 1, but at this point you can also limit the main memory to be used to see how the program works with less available work memory.

(... see Image-2 Point 1 and 2)
